Interlocking system
Safety first. The motto is universal. It applies to aviation, process industries but also – and especially – to the railways. Eurolocking is a system designed to ensure the safety of rail infrastructure. It prevents collisions between trains, and between trains and road vehicles. It detects dangerous situations and ensures that when they occur, trains are brought to a standstill. In short, Eurolocking forms the heart of the interlocking system.

The best of both worlds
Eurolocking brings together the best of two worlds: it utilizes extensive experience with safety systems in process industries. Movares has combined this experience with knowledge of the Dutch rail infrastructure. The result is a modern, affordable, fast, flexible, customer-maintained interlocking system.
Proven hardware and specialist software
Eurolocking is a joint effort involving Movares and HIMA. The system consists of a hardware component and a software application. The hardware component is the HIMA Safety Controller. This device is widely used in process industries. It plays an essential role in the safe control of processes in refineries and chemical factories. HIMA leads the European market in this field. Expertise in the field of train protection is provided by Movares, in the form of a software application developed specifically for the Dutch rail network.
The fruits of experience in the process industries
Eurolocking utilizes standard industrial hardware that is already widely used in the process industries. Like the railways, those industries demand high levels of safety and reliability. Safety systems are used on a large scale in the process industries, ensuring the acquisition of experience and rapid development. Utilizing this experience makes it possible to build a modern system for protecting rail traffic.
A wide range of applications
Eurolocking is suitable for both sidings and open track. With minor modifications, the system can be used on light rail, level crossings, tunnel systems, freight yards and marshalling yards.
International applications
The HIMA Safety Controller is already in service on marshalling yards in Denmark, Finland and Sweden, and will shortly be introduced on passenger lines in Germany.
The advantages of Eurolocking
- Cheap: savings of up to 30% of the total cost of a interlocking installation are possible
- Easy to use: maintenance and modifications can be carried out even with the system in service (if the customer so wishes) – it can be switched on and left on
- Fast: rapid processing of large quantities of input and output data
- Open: open, accessible system architecture
- Independent: not tied to one supplier, and the software can be modified by the customer
- Up to date: meets applicable EU standards, approved to CENELEC safety level SIL 4
