Under the name of Movares we already developed activities in 2005. Countries where Movares operates include France, Germany, Poland, Portugal and Slovakia. Below we present the most important results.
Poland: number four
Movares has strengthened its presence in Poland with the takeover of Lublin design bureau Biuro Projektów Kolejowych (BPK), formerly a state-owned enterprise. This bureau stands out on account of the quality of its 45 staff and of the work it produces. The order books are also promising. As BPK operates in most of Movares’s areas of activity, the takeover creates numerous opportunities. It also makes Movares Polska the fourth largest railway engineering consultancy in Poland.
In addition, Movares has taken over a small approvals laboratory for railway signalling equipment from Bombardier. The laboratory has a staff of five. It will continue to receive all Bombardier's work for the next four years, and is free to acquire additional contracts.
France: high-speed lines
Movares is working on the engineering aspects of the Dijon-Mulhouse high-speed line. The project was more or less suspended during the second half of 2005 pending an audit on the existing rail network, which will require major investment over the next few years. As a result, new construction is undergoing intensive evaluation, which is leading to delay.
Movares has set up a second partnership with Ingerop and has tendered for a number of contracts in conjunction with this new partner, including a second high-speed line between Nimes and Montpellier. Evaluation of tenders has been postponed pending the results of the audit mentioned above.
Germany: signalling
Although the German infrastructure market is still very quiet, Movares Deutschland has found its niche – in signalling consultancy. Consultancy work focuses mainly on RAMS: Reliability, Availability, Maintainability and Safety. Movares Deutschland invested in developing both the market and its networks during 2005, setting up joint ventures with a number of similar companies.
